CROSSVILLE, TENNESSEE — The historic Palace Theater in downtown Crossville is undergoing significant renovations aimed at preserving its legacy while enhancing the experience for future generations.
To learn more about the scope of the project and what the community can expect, I reach out to Malena Alderman, Administrator of the Palace Theater, to get an inside look at the vision behind the updates.
Q. “What’s the History Behind the Palace Theater?”
“The Palace story is an incredible testament to the power of community spirit, tenacity, and enterprising, bold dreams. It was beautifully restored by community leaders and lots of volunteers, and the 1938 Art Nouveau Jewel of Main Street re-opened in 2001 after more than 20 years of sitting empty and neglected.
It’s been a showcase for local talent as well as some really big names, a place for new generations to make memories watching movies on the big screen, and it’s been the stage for local nonprofits to be able to raise money for great causes. It has transformed from a local stage to a regional draw, and it was time to reflect its far-reaching impact and upgrade the venue.
We have patrons from Nashville to Knoxville to Chattanooga, from Kentucky to Alabama, Georgia, and beyond. People often travel to Crossville just to see a show here, and we want to continue that momentum with a venue that is worthy of those acts that draw that kind of following.”
Q. “What Renovations Are Being Made at the Palace Theater?”
“We started what I call the upgrade of the Palace last year, by painting the walls and giving the whole auditorium a more neutral palette. It was extremely well-received by the community!
We also refinished our stage and upgraded our sound and stage lighting in the past couple of years. Now, we have redone the floors, changing the main floor in the auditorium to a textured epoxy finish and replacing the old carpet in the balcony with new carpet tiles. We also have built out a production area for sound and lighting production.
Finally, we are getting new seats installed!”

Q. “When Will the Palace Theater Re-Open?”
“We will open back up with a huge show on March 14. We are honored to be hosting The Frontmen Live that evening.
The Frontmen consist of Larry Stewart (Restless Heart), Richie McDonald (formerly of Lonestar), and Tim Rushlow (formerly of Little Texas), who collectively have 30 Number 1 hits and have sold 30 million albums!”

A New Chapter for the Palace Theater in Crossville
As renovations move forward, the Palace Theater is more than just a construction project. It’s a reinvestment in downtown Crossville and the community that fills its seats year after year. These updates will help preserve the theater’s historic charm while enhancing the experience for performers, patrons, and future generations.
With thoughtful improvements underway, the Palace is poised to remain a cultural cornerstone in Crossville: a place where stories are told, talent is showcased, and the community gathers.
The next act for this local landmark is just beginning.
